We are excited to announce that the current world record holders, Team Quebec- Jean-francois Richard, Jeff Jegou and Maxime Laliberté, will be joining us at I.C.E. Fest in just a few short weeks! Maxime and Jeff are driving over 2400+ miles in their Jeep...aka Sisu’ and JFR is flying in from his trip to Arizona. Crazy!

Mild Start to January

3rd Annual I.C.E. Fest had mild start in January but the second we rescheduled to Feb. 8th and 9th it decides to get colder and give us the 12" of ice needed for a safe event.

Temperatures in the first 14 days of January averaged 5 or more degrees above average across a large area of the central and eastern United States. Some locations, like Boston, Cleveland and Milwaukee, had an average overall temperature of 10 or more degrees above average. This stretch of mild weather was capped off by record warmth in the East last weekend.

Boston set an all-time January record-high temperature of 74 degrees Sunday. Highs in the 80s were reported on Saturday as far north as Charleston, West Virginia.

But ...

The heart of the colder weather will likely be in the upper Midwest. Highs in the region could be 10 to 25 degrees colder than average beginning this weekend. Daytime readings might not rise out of the single digits and teens as far south as Iowa and northern Illinois by Sunday.

Lows in the teens and 20s below zero are possible in the coldest parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota during this cold snap.

In general, we're not expecting any daily records to be flirted with, as the bar for those daily records in mid- to late January is very low.

Winter Storm Warning for Morrison County, Minnesota

Snow Accumulations of 6 to 9 INCHES of the light and fluffy stuff but the high winds on Sunday is what is gonna cause havoc.

The DNR does not measure ice thickness on Minnesota lakes. Your safety is your responsibility. Check the Ice thickness every 150 feet — the ice should be at least 4 inches thick if you're walking or ice fishing, 5-7 inches thick for snowmobiles and ATVs, 8-12 inches thick for small vehicles and 12-15 inches thick for trucks ie: events on ice.
