To the Editor:
The second annual Sunny Zwilling Memorial Ice Carousel Extravaganza (ICE) Fest, is a free family-friendly weekend of outdoor events to help stomp out children’s hunger. The event will be raising funds for Flyer Pride Pack — a weekend food backpack program for elementary kids who live at risk of weekend hunger.
We appreciate the more than 60 Little Falls area businesses that have come together to help sponsor the event that our family is hosting Saturday, Jan. 12, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 13, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Green Prairie Fish Lake, 12636 Forest Road, Little Falls.
This year’s ice carousel will be solar powered and will be large enough to regain the world record for the largest ice carousel (current record is 427 feet).
Other activities will include curling, speed skating, hockey, figure skating, fat tire bikes, Nordic skiing, striders, igloo building and open skating under the lights. Check out www.MnIceFest.com for details.

- On Jan. 6-7, on Green Prairie Fish Lake, the Zwilling family did Little Falls and the USA proud. They cut a 110-meter ice carousel, beating a Finland world record by 10 meters.
Chuck Zwilling recruited many of his 12 siblings to undertake the monumental endeavor. Plan A didn’t go exactly as planned but they succeeded at about Plan J.
Even with the problems, there were many smiles and much laughter. Local businesses donated equipment, free coffee, cocoa and chili for spectators. Those of us who spent the entire sub-zero day, evening there, appreciated it.
I met many of the Zwillings and every one of them was as nice as can be. They happily allowed anyone who wanted to, to join in the labor. It was a wonderful experience for all ages.
In February, Finland is hosting the first World Ice Carousel Festival. Janne Kabylehto, the former world record-holder in Finland, extended an invitation to the Zwilling family and Central Minnesota ice carousel enthusiasts. Twenty-some carousel cutters from across Europe will compete for the title of best carousel, not biggest. Chuck Zwilling is invited to be an honorary judge.
Kudos to the Zwillings and their supporters. Anybody want to go to Finland?
