-- A reminder from Chuck Zwilling that Ice Fest has been moved to February 8th and 9th. Zwilling stated that he is still receiving calls about publications and other items showing the date still this weekend but that is NOT the case. Zwilling reported to Little Falls Radio December 26th that the date was moved to February due to lack of ice on Green Prairie Fish Lake that would cause first a big safety issue and second the unlikely chance to break the world record for the ice carousel. If you still see publications or posters showing the event is in January please disregard it as the Ice Fest on Green Prairie Fish Lake is on February 8th and 9th. If you need more information contact Chuck at (320) 249-1504.

-- On December 26th Chuck Zwilling told Little Falls Radio that they postponed Ice Fest on Green Prairie Fish Lake to February 8th and 9th as the ice was not near what was needed to have a safe event and also try and break a world ice carousel record. Sheriff Larsen reminds all anglers who want to get out on the ice, ATV's snowmobiles, vehicles and even walkers that the ice in the area could be very thick in one spot and less than 2 inches in another. Be safe.

-- Due to the lack of ice and the warmth of this month of December, Chuck Zwilling announced Thursday morning that the 3rd Annual Sunny Zwilling Memorial I.C.E. Fest on Green Prairie Fish Lake we will be moving the date from January 11th and 12th which was the original date to now to February 8th and 9th. If you are an activity, donor in kind, visitor, volunteer or a vendor please contact Chuck Zwilling as soon as you can to make sure you can still make it work on helping out or being part of the I.C.E. Fest. Zwilling said that the ice amounts on the lake were around 6-7 inches and that is just not enough to make it first of all a safe event with the people, and he would be unable to try and break the world record for the ice carousel. If you need to contact Chuck he can be reached at (320) 249-1504.

--The two day Ice Fest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Green Prairie Fish Lake north of Little Falls. Chuck Zwilling mentioned on Little Falls Radio last week that folks from Finland and Maine are planning to come see if Zwilling can capture the title of largest ice carousel once again. Since he did this last year, Finland and then Maine (who now has the record) broke it. Last year, nearly 500 people attended the event. This year, the event is two days and there will be warming tents. They added plenty of activities for folks of all ages. Nordic skiing lessons by the Little Falls ski team from 11:00am-noon on Saturday; curling from Vikingland Curling Club from noon to 4:00pm both days; a speedskating demonstration from Greater Minnesota Speedskating Association from 1-3pm Saturday; fat tire bike rides provided by Touright Bicycle Shop at 5:00pm Saturday; a figure skating program from noon-2:00pm on Sunday; children's bike rides with skis provided by Touright Bicycle Shop at 2:00pm Sunday; hockey games and open skating, mini four-wheel rides provided by Power Lodge, and an igloo-building contest. This year, Zwilling's son-in-law created a new machine to carve the ice. It is made from a snowblower, steel skis and a saw that slides up and down. After Christmas, they scored the ice to create an outline of the ice carousel. On Friday, they plan to begin cutting the ice carousel. The idea for the event started two years ago when Zwilling and his family made a 20-meter ice carousel at the annual sibling get-together. Last year, the siblings invited the public to an event named after their father Sunny, who owned a logging company in Sauk Rapids for many years. The event also helps the Flyer Pride Pack backpacks from the school to help with hungry children. The event is free to attend, but the beach area will only have handicap and limited parking, so you are encouraged to take the shuttle from the Main Gate and a few other locations to get there. More details can be found at fallsradio.com on our community calendar and there are brochures of the two day event available at Little Falls Radio Office.
